Drag all your summer clothes out and use these tips to keep them looking cool!
- Try to do laundry in the morning and take advantage of the afternoon sun to help dry your clothes. Be careful with darker colours and fabrics as direct sunlight will cause fading over time.
- Popular summer fabrics like cotton, silk, and linen are usually delicate. Swimwear can also be made with delicate fabrics. Make sure to use colder water and a gentle detergent (you don’t need too much, less is better). Read the clothing labels to see if there are specific directions for the item. Many delicate items should not be put into your dryer.
- Separate your laundry into colours vs lights and try to do towels and heavy fabrics together. Mixing darker colours with lighter ones will dull lighter, white fabrics. If you’ve ever had a drawer of pink underwear because of one red sock you know the importance of separating your laundry. This includes both the washer and dyer.
- It wouldn’t be a summer BBQ without a stain or two. Fabric stains can happen anywhere and although different stains require different methods, all stains need immediate attention. The longer the stain remains, the harder it is to remove and once it’s set in, it’s there to stay. Whether its soap, water, lemon, baking soda, talcum powder, salt, or store bought stain remover, after you wash the fabric, make sure the stain remover worked before tossing it into the dryer. A hot dryer will set a stain into the fabric for good.
- Camping generates extra laundry like blankets, sleeping bags and towels. If you’re washing everyone’s sleeping bag from the weekend, your home washer and dryer might not cut it. Your best bet is to visit our laundromat for industrial-sized equipment and a front-loading washer. Check the fabric labels for specific instructions on water temperature and drying options.
- Summer is a busy time. If you would rather camp, hike, BBQ and have fun, you can always use our Drop-off Laundry Service. We’ll wash, dry and fold all your laundry for you so that you can enjoy summer fun!
